Before you go

Best time to go

This is a seasonal service stop, not a year-round safety net. Parks Canada describes Parkway services as generally operating from early May to mid-October; in winter there are no gas stations, hotels or restaurants between Lake Louise and Jasper. Individual businesses can keep different hours, so confirm the fuel, food or room you need before setting out. A Banff National Park pass is required for the Parkway, and there is no cell coverage along the road, so plan fuel and download directions in advance.

More about The Crossing Resort

A useful stop on the ParkwayThe Crossing Resort is a motel and road-service campus where the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93)…

The Crossing Resort is a motel and road-service campus where the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) meets Highway 11. It brings lodging, food, fuel, a store and RV services together in a remote stretch, so plan a stop here if you need to refuel, eat or break the drive overnight. The mountain setting is part of the appeal; the services are the main reason to stop.

Food and supplies in one placeThe campus has the Mt. Wilson Restaurant, Crossing Cafe and Parkway Pub, plus a general store.

The campus has the Mt. Wilson Restaurant, Crossing Cafe and Parkway Pub, plus a general store. The pub's indoor grill is the distinctive meal: you cook a steak, burger or jumbo hot dog yourself. The cafe serves coffee, soup and sandwiches, while the store stocks groceries, RV supplies and travel basics.

A simple roadside overnightThe motel is useful for staying on the route without driving back to a town, and its mountain…

The motel is useful for staying on the route without driving back to a town, and its mountain setting is a real plus. It is a practical roadside stay rather than a polished luxury resort: visitors often describe rooms as small or dated, and find the cost high for what they get. Check current room and meal details before building a trip around them.

The route before the resortLong before the resort, this valley was part of a fur-trade route.

Long before the resort, this valley was part of a fur-trade route. Traders crossed the North Saskatchewan River and followed the Howse River toward Howse Pass. George Brewster built a bungalow camp here in 1948. After the Banff–Jasper highway opened in 1963, the Crossing moved to its current site; Highway 11 reached the Parkway here in 1968.
