Parking

Use the Glenwood Dunes main lot at 1475 North Brummitt Road, near U.S. Highway 20. There is no parking at either end of the extension. Follow the larger trail network west to its western end; take a map for the 13 junctions. The lot has year-round restrooms and potable water and a first-come covered picnic shelter. A park pass is required.

Safety

The approach passes through a 13-junction network and the extension crosses Tremont Road; follow a trail map and use care at road crossings. Ticks are present year-round and poison ivy can grow along trail edges. Pets are prohibited on the system’s equestrian sections; leashed pets are allowed on the extension itself, but pet access from the main lot is not clear enough to promise for this mapped route.

Hiking Glenwood Dunes Extension Trail

Is this the walk you want?Glenwood Dunes Extension Trail is a 5.

Glenwood Dunes Extension Trail is a 5.7-mile out-and-back from Glenwood Dunes Lot: follow the main trail network west, then take the 2.6-mile out-and-back branch to County Road 50E. The branch is 1.3 miles each way; the longer number includes the lot-to-junction approach and return. It is an easy-to-moderate woodland walk with little climbing. Allow about three hours, and take a trail map from the lot.

From the lot, follow the Glenwood network west to its western end; there are 13 trail junctions, so pay attention to the map instead of treating this as a turn-free stroll. The extension itself follows packed dirt and loose sand, gains only 26 feet, crosses Tremont Road and ends at County Road 50E. Turn around there. The branch heads toward Dune Park station, but the named trail line stops at the road.

Before you set outThere is no parking at either end of the extension.

There is no parking at either end of the extension. The Glenwood Dunes lot is the nearest access and has year-round restrooms and potable water, plus a covered picnic shelter. A park pass is required. Leashed dogs are allowed on the extension, but pets are prohibited on equestrian sections of the larger system; the lot-to-branch access and alternate route descriptions do not agree clearly enough to promise a pet-safe approach. Ticks are present year-round, poison ivy can grow along the trail edge, and road crossings deserve attention.
