Little Todd Campground

Little Todd is a primitive, four-site tent campground on Isle Royale's north shore at Little Todd Harbor, off the Minong Ridge Trail. The NPS lists access by foot, canoe, or kayak, so plan for a backcountry trip rather than a vehicle stop. Individual sites are first come, first served; parties of six or fewer need a free overnight permit. Stays are limited to two nights from June 1 through Labor Day.

The campground operates from April 16 through October 31 each year. Food lockers are available year-round and each site has a fire ring, but there is no camp store, trash pickup, staff, cell service, or shower. The water is non-potable and must be purified; seasonal composting toilets are provided. Pets aren't allowed, and the rough, uneven terrain and facilities aren't wheelchair accessible.

The 5.7-mile leg from Little Todd to North Desor is one of the Minong Ridge Trail's hardest sections. NPS says it typically takes the whole day despite the short mileage; expect steep elevation changes, rocks and roots, slippery footing when wet, and changing trail conditions. There is no easily accessible water along this leg, so purify water at either campground before setting out. A map, compass, and navigation skills matter here.
