This is a 4 km loop (about 2.63 miles total) starting at the Djarrandjin (Muirella Park) campground. It is a flat, easy Grade 2 walk that typically takes about 2 hours if you linger for photos and birdwatching. The marked track follows the wetlands through lily-dotted water, paperbarks, ghost gums, and freshwater mangroves.

Wetland habitats are the star: lilies and reeds, pale ghost-gum trunks, paperbark pockets, and freshwater mangroves along the billabongs. Birdlife is the main attraction, with egrets and darters often seen working the shallows. Wallabies, buffalo, and feral pigs may also occur in the area; observe all wildlife from a safe distance.

This is not a high-drama viewpoint or waterfall hike. Its appeal is the slow-burn beauty of floodplain country and the opportunity to watch birds and wetland life. Much of the route is exposed, flat, and hot, so start early or walk in the late afternoon. The walk is seasonal and is generally best in the dry season.

- Keep to marked tracks, wear sturdy footwear, and carry plenty of water.
- Do not enter the water. Kakadu wetlands are crocodile habitat.
- Protect yourself from sun and biting insects, and avoid walking in the heat of the day.
