This is the quick payoff in the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) area: a brief stroll from the Anbangbang Gallery car park delivers a wide-open panorama of stone country, billabongs and the escarpment. It’s the classic Kakadu contrast—rugged sandstone rising above green wetlands—with rock art close by for context.

Getting there & the walk

Birdlife is the headliner here—watch for kites and other wetland birds working the billabong below. Late afternoon is best for activity and softer light.

There are toilets and parking at the Anbangbang Gallery car park; there are no facilities at the lookout itself, and no water taps—bring what you need. Expect exposure to sun and heat on the final approach.

Best time to visit

Go early or late in the day for cooler temps and the most dramatic light. Sunset is gorgeous but draws a crowd in the dry season (May–October). If you want quieter, aim for early morning.

Is it worth it?

Yes—this is a high-reward stop that pairs perfectly with the nearby rock art. If you’re already at Burrungkuy, don’t skip it.
