Before you go

Best time to go

This is an outdoor, weather-dependent stop that usually runs from about May into September; check current operating details before going. Use the parking beside the course, not the separate Lake George Steamboat Company lot across Beach Road. The neighboring Pink Roof serves ice cream, homemade Italian ices and coconut shakes; its hours are separate from the course.

More about Around the World Miniature Golf

Two themed coursesAround the World Miniature Golf is an open-air attraction at the Beach Road and Westbrook Road…

Around the World Miniature Golf is an open-air attraction at the Beach Road and Westbrook Road corner in Lake George village. It has two separate 18-hole courses, Around the World and Around the USA. If you enjoy novelty putting, a single course makes an easy game break; I’d allow about an hour, and both sides turn it into a longer stop.

Landmarks between the holesThe greens use small landmark models and trick shots rather than a plain run of cups.

The greens use small landmark models and trick shots rather than a plain run of cups. The Around the USA course ends at a miniature New York City subway entrance; the Around the World side includes landmarks such as the Taj Mahal and a guitar-shaped Spain hole. Some holes need a steadier putt than others, so younger kids may want help with the tougher shots.

A travel souvenir turned courseLake George local Harry Horn opened the first course, Around the USA in 18 Holes, in 1963.

Lake George local Harry Horn opened the first course, Around the USA in 18 Holes, in 1963. During World War II, he traveled across the country as a Navy electrician and pilot, then drew on the places and souvenirs from those trips when he built the course. He added the international course several years later, carrying that personal travel theme onto the second 18-hole layout.

Parts of the course look toward Lake George and the steamboats; the view is a bonus while you’re playing, not the main attraction. The course has a long-running, old-school look. Visitors don’t agree on upkeep: some enjoy it as it is, while others mention worn surfaces, so expect a nostalgic roadside setup rather than a polished modern attraction.
