Guide
Access is by boat only, and DEC requires an online reservation for a specific dock site. The island inset is a facility map, not a navigation chart, so plan your route to the reserved dock separately. The pavilion is first-come, first-served. Picnic areas have tables, charcoal grills and fireplaces. Dogs aren't allowed on the island, at the docks or aboard boats moored there.
The island was a British supply post during Burgoyne's 1777 campaign toward Albany. On September 24, Colonel John Brown's Patriot flotilla bombarded the defenders for nearly two hours, then withdrew. A stone Peace Obelisk at the island's north end, made from nearby Prospect Mountain stone, recalls that history.
