West Dollar Island is a small state day-use picnic island in Lake George's Glen Island Group. You reach it only by boat, and you need a reservation for a specific day-use dock. Make it part of a boating day rather than expecting an easy walk-up picnic stop.

Sort out the dockReservations are for individual dock sites, not a general arrival area.

Reservations are for individual dock sites, not a general arrival area. One listed West Dollar slip allows up to nine people, so check the details for the site you book. Pavilions are first come, first served, and dogs aren't allowed on the island, at its docks, or on boats moored there.

Dates of operation are seasonal; check current availability before launching. Public restrooms and potable water weren't confirmed for this island, so check before you leave shore.

The cliffs and the NarrowsA steep rock face meets the water along the island's shore.

A steep rock face meets the water along the island's shore. West Dollar sits in Lake George's Narrows, a six-mile corridor between the Tongue Mountain Range and the Black, Erebus and Shelving Rock mountains; the lake narrows to under a mile there. Lake George occupies a down-dropped fault block, called a graben, and drains north through the La Chute River toward Lake Champlain.
