Katherine Landing

Katherine Landing is a developed marina and recreation base on Lake Mohave, at the southern end of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a short drive from Bullhead City and Laughlin. It's a good pick for a boat day or a full day by the water: launch ramps, a marina, a swim beach, a picnic area, campground and lodge sit together here. Lake Mohave has 198 coves to explore from this base; two trails also reach sandy coves if you're staying on shore.

You can launch your own boat or rent one here; the marina also has fuel, slips and dry storage. The fishing pier is accessible, and there's a swim beach for a simpler day by the water. Wind can rise quickly on the lake, so check conditions before you plan a boating or fishing day.

Fisherman's Trail is the shorter outing: a well-defined route of less than a mile with little elevation change to sheltered Turkey Cove, where the shallow water and sandy shore make a good swim or picnic break. Lake View Trail is a bigger commitment, a moderate 4.7-mile round trip from the picnic area to South Arizona Telephone Cove. Expect uneven footing and a rock-lined start. It gives you more shoreline to explore without a boat.

The landing has tent and RV camping as well as the Lake Mohave Lodge by the marina. The operator lists 173 year-round campground sites and a separate 24-site RV park with water, sewer and 30/50-amp hookups. Campground facilities include showers, restrooms and nearby laundry.

Katherine Landing Café serves breakfast and lunch with indoor and outdoor waterfront seating; ice cream and takeout are also available. A nearby store carries convenience groceries, and the marina has boat fuel. Public restrooms include accessible options, and a bottle-filling station is listed among the site amenities.

Look for ducks and shorebirds along Lake View Trail. The marina view takes in floating docks, open water and the dry hills around the lake; for a sandy cove in the frame, take one of the shoreline trails.
