Raymer Hollow Trail

Raymer Hollow Trail is a 6.2-mile one-way backcountry connector between Mill Branch Trail and Collie Ridge Trail. It is not a 6.2-mile out-and-back, and neither end is a road-side trailhead. Allow about 2.5 hours for the corridor itself and add the miles needed to reach it and leave it through the surrounding trail network. A published 10.6-mile circuit from Big Hollow Trailhead combines Raymer Hollow with part of Collie Ridge; that longer itinerary includes other trail miles.

From Mill Branch, the route rises on broad dirt tread, then narrows into a forest path. Several moderate hills break up the 6.2 miles. At roughly 4.2 miles, the trail drops into a ravine to cross Dry Prong. Stepping stones have been used there, but water can cover them, so be ready for wet feet when the creek is up. Two more climbs follow, then a longer level stretch leads toward the northern end.

About 4.75 miles from Mill Branch, a marked 0.1-mile spur leads to Raymer Hollow Backcountry Campsite, about 1.5 miles before Collie Ridge. The spur is separate from the 6.2-mile trail length; an overnight stay requires a backcountry permit or reservation. The final 0.4 mile climbs toward Collie Ridge.

There is no direct car access at either end. Reach the Mill Branch junction from the broader backcountry network, such as Maple Springs Trailhead via Mill Branch, or approach the Collie Ridge end from Lincoln Trailhead; account for those extra miles and arrange a loop or point-to-point plan. Dogs are allowed on surface trails on a leash up to six feet. Horses also use backcountry trails, so step aside and keep dogs calm while they pass.
