More about Maple Springs Group Campground

Is this the right campground?Maple Springs is a small, wooded group campground on the north side of Mammoth Cave National…

Maple Springs is a small, wooded group campground on the north side of Mammoth Cave National Park, about six miles from the visitor center. Its seven sites are built for larger groups, and four are set up for horses. This is a good choice if your group wants a quieter base near the park’s northern backcountry; it’s a poor fit if showers, a dump station, or a camp store matter to you.

What you get on siteEvery site has water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a fire ring.

Every site has water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a fire ring. The sites are paved and level, but none is designated for accessible use. Potable water and vault toilets are seasonal, and there are no showers or dump station. RVs can be up to 40 feet long and trailers up to 26 feet.

Horses and backcountry trailsMaple Springs is a starting point for more than 70 miles of park backcountry trails.

Maple Springs is a starting point for more than 70 miles of park backcountry trails. Riders have about 60 miles of horse-open trails north of Green River, and four campground sites are designed for horses. At equestrian sites, keep horse trailers on pavement and use the provided tie-offs rather than tying horses to trees.

The south-side route crosses Green River on the park ferry, so check its status before setting out that way. The north-side approach uses KY 259, KY 728, KY 1827, and KY 1352 before Maple Springs Loop Road. The campground’s regular season is March 1 through November 30.

There’s no store or food service here, so bring what your group needs. Park rules prohibit bringing firewood into the park; gather dead and down wood on site or pick up firewood at Caver’s Campstore near the visitor center.
