Trail guide
Echo River Springs Loop is a 0.7-mile, mostly level circuit from the Green River Ferry parking lot to two spring overlooks and back. Allow 30 to 45 minutes if you stop at the platforms and waysides. It’s a good choice when you want a small dose of the park’s cave-and-river story without a steep climb or a long walk. It’s too short to fill a day built around hiking mileage.
The route is paved with boardwalk sections and stays almost completely level. Benches and interpretive waysides give you good reasons to pause. Nearby paths connect to the unpaved trail network, so check the junctions and stay on the short loop if you need the smoother route. A turn onto one of those paths changes this into a different walk.
Echo River Spring is where water from the cave’s Echo River comes back above ground. From there it flows toward the Green River near the ferry crossing. A second viewing platform looks over Accessory Spring. It’s connected to Echo River Spring, though another water source may also feed it. The two stops make this loop more interesting than a simple riverside stroll: you see where water that spent time underground meets the surface again.
Rain enters sinkholes across the park’s limestone country and moves through cave passages. Some groundwater from sinkholes south of the park can travel more than seven miles underground before emerging at a spring. This is an easy place to picture that hidden route: the cave isn’t only a room visitors walk through, it’s also part of a much larger plumbing system.
The overlook has clear lower panels so wheelchair users can see the spring beyond the rail. Tactile details and push-button audio descriptions at the waysides add context, and benches make it easy to take the short route slowly. At the Echo River platform, frame the green water through a section of the clear panel with the wooded bank beyond it; that shows both the spring and the useful design of the viewing deck.
Begin at the Echo River Springs Trail Head beside the Green River Ferry parking lot. The lot is also used for ferry and canoe or kayak access. Two accessible picnic tables and portable toilets are at the trailhead. Pets are allowed on park trails when leashed, so keep dogs on leash here too.
For a longer outing, Green River Bluffs Trail is a 1.3-mile option from the picnic area, with a ridge and river views. Choose Echo River Springs when a short, gentle walk and the spring platforms are the point; choose the bluffs when you want more trail underfoot.
