Think of the Mount Rushmore Information Center as your launch pad. It’s the first, most efficient stop for maps, quick questions, and getting oriented before you head to the Grand View Terrace, the museum, or the Presidential Trail.

What You’ll Find

You’ll get current conditions, program times, and practical advice tailored to your visit. If you collect stamps, the park passport stamp is available here. The Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center—just steps away beneath the Grand View Terrace—houses the museum exhibits and a short, well-done film that brings the carving story to life. Pair the two and you’ll see the mountain with new eyes.

Hours & Seasonality

Open daily. Typical schedule: 8:00 am opening; closes around 9:00 pm from late May through September, 6:00 pm in October, and 5:00 pm from November to late May. Buildings are closed Dec 25, though the grounds and parking may be open weather permitting. Grounds often have broader hours than buildings, so confirm same-day times on arrival.

Best Time to Visit

Come right at opening for easy parking and elbow room on the terrace. If you want the film and indoor exhibits, plan for after 8:00 am. In summer, circle back for the evening ranger program and lighting (late May–September); the sculpture is illuminated nightly year‑round, and seeing it both day and night is worth it.

Make the Most of It

• Ask the desk about the day’s ranger talks and whether the Sculptor’s Studio is running programs.
• If you’re doing the Presidential Trail, get a quick briefing—there are lots of stairs past the initial accessible stretch.
• Parking is paid and valid long enough to make a return visit later the same day, which pairs nicely with the evening program.
