Best time to go
The overlook faces east, so afternoon and early evening are the friendliest hours for photography with the sun behind you. Sunset light on the farmland is a favorite with people carrying a camera.

Seasonal rural vista over Tennessee farmland, barns and wooded ridges
Overview
Milepost 405.1 gives you a quick look at rural America from the Parkway. This is a scenic view and photo spot, and it works best as a short stop rather than a destination in itself.

Jackson Falls and Baker Bluff“You're coming up on Jackson Falls, with Baker Bluff Overlook nearby. The falls are one of only two on the Parkway, reached by a short but steep paved walk from the rest area; the climb back is the real effort.”

Guide
A broad valley of fields and wooded ridges, with a farmhouse and farm buildings in the distance and cattle and barns on the farmland below. Foreground trees frame the view, which is part of the appeal and part of the limitation.
A trail links the overlook toward Jackson Falls, about 0.75 mile one way. It is fairly strenuous because it goes up and then back down again, so plan for the return climb. Jackson Falls is a separate destination, not part of this overlook.
The view is seasonal and can be partly screened by trees and brush, so do not count on a fully open panorama. Some visitors find the edge a little overgrown. If you only have time for one thing, decide before you park whether you are here for the view or for the walk toward the falls.
