“You're coming up on Jackson Falls, with Baker Bluff Overlook nearby. The falls are one of only two on the Parkway, reached by a short but steep paved walk from the rest area; the climb back is the real effort.”

Hiking Baker Bluff Trail

The connectorBaker Bluff Trail is a 0.

Baker Bluff Trail is a 0.4-mile point-to-point walk linking the Jackson Falls rest area (milepost 404.7) with Baker Bluff Overlook (milepost 405.1). Allow about 15 minutes one way; retracing the route makes it roughly 0.8 miles and around 30 minutes. Start at Jackson Falls, head left from the rest area, and follow the Baker Bluff sign. This is a short link between two Parkway stops, not a loop, so plan to walk back if you only have a car at Jackson Falls.

The first roughly three-tenths of a mile climbs moderately, then the final tenth drops very steeply toward the bluff. From Jackson Falls, the steepest pitch is downhill; on the return it becomes a short but steep climb. That makes this brief route more demanding than its distance suggests. Take care on the steep section, especially on the descent. Most of the connector is about getting between the two destinations, rather than a succession of viewpoints.

The trail ends at Baker Bluff, a separate scenic overlook with a broad view across rural Tennessee. Open fields run toward a low wooded ridge, framed by leafy branches near the viewpoint. Most of the connector itself has no open view, so save the photo stop for the bluff and include a little foreground foliage to show the layers in the landscape. Jackson Falls is a different outing from the same rest area: its roughly 900-foot paved spur descends steeply to the cascade. That waterfall spur is not part of Baker Bluff Trail.
