Trail guide

Hiking Fall Hollow Waterfall Trail

A very short waterfall walkFall Hollow Waterfall Trail is a 0.

Fall Hollow Waterfall Trail is a 0.17-mile paved out-and-back from the Parkway stop to a platform overlooking Fall Hollow’s 20-foot drop. The mapped line follows the paved approach once; 0.17 miles includes the return along it. You can hear the water soon after leaving the car. This is a quick roadside walk rather than a workout, and about 15 minutes gives you time for the path and a look at the falls.

Take in the whole creekThe main draw is the upper creek spilling over a rock ledge into a wooded hollow.

The main draw is the upper creek spilling over a rock ledge into a wooded hollow. Smaller cascades appear on the short approach, before the viewing platform brings you to the prominent drop. Stay there for the view and photos; the angle is close enough to show the water cutting through the rock without needing to leave the walkway. There is no reason to scramble down for a better shot.

Know where the paved route endsThe route in this guide stops at the viewing platform and returns the way it came.

The route in this guide stops at the viewing platform and returns the way it came. Rough paths continue toward additional cascades below, but they are much steeper and their full distance and loop shape are unclear. Treat that as a separate, harder outing, not an unmarked extension of this easy walk. Fall Hollow is the more level of the Parkway’s two waterfall approaches, though shallow standing water can cross the path.

Access and footingStart at the Fall Hollow Waterfall auto parking area at milepost 391.9.

Start at the Fall Hollow Waterfall auto parking area at milepost 391.9. The path is short and paved, but water and moisture can leave both the trail and platform slippery. Don’t climb on the rocks around the falls; stay on the paved approach for the return. Leashed pets are allowed, and the stop is available year-round.
