The park's public-access story

Red Hawk doesn't have a documented naming story, but the wider park has a useful one. Helen and Jack Frye bought the former Smoke Trail Ranch in 1941. After a 1980 hike was blocked by private-property restrictions, Governor Bruce Babbitt raised concerns about public access. Red Rock State Park opened on October 19, 1991.
