Hanging Rock is a large granite boulder perched on an open granite slope in Giant Forest, reached by a short uphill path along the road to Moro Rock. It makes a worthwhile add-on if you’re already driving that way: the rock opens a broad view south over the Kaweah River Valley, with Moro Rock in the scene.
The boulder sits on a broad granite surface above the valley. Turn toward Moro Rock and you can see the landmark across the way; some visitors also spot people at its summit. For a photo, keep the sloping granite in the foreground and frame Moro Rock beyond it. Sunset can put warm light on Moro Rock’s west face. Visitors describe the viewing surface as exposed and sometimes slick, with no railing, so stay on the part of the rock where you feel secure.
