Eleven Range Overlook

Eleven Range Overlook is a roadside viewpoint and wayside exhibit between Hospital Rock and Giant Forest Museum. Pull in for a broad look across Kaweah Canyon toward the San Joaquin Valley; the low panel sits beyond a highway barrier on a flat, unpaved path. This is a short stop, not a hike. The highway here has frequent hairpin turns: vehicles longer than 22 feet aren't recommended, and snow or ice can bring chain restrictions.

On a clear day, the Coast Range is about 100 miles away on the far side of the valley. Haze and smoke can hide that distant line, so the view may feel modest when the air is murky. For a photo, keep the whole sweep of canyon and layered ridges in frame; the long view is the point.

The panel describes how air pollution blurs scenery and harms trees, while artificial light dims the stars. It also interprets the 2021 KNP Complex Fire. Nearby slopes include fire-killed incense-cedar, ponderosa pine, and black oak; dense forest, accumulated woody debris, drought-killed trees, and steep terrain contributed to severe fire effects in parts of the Marble Fork Kaweah drainage.
