Beetle Rock is a broad granite slab just steps from the Giant Forest Museum, delivering sweeping views over the Sierra Nevada foothills for minimal effort. It’s an easy, paved out-and-back and a calmer alternative to packed viewpoints like Moro Rock. If you’re short on time or energy, this is a high-reward stop.
Route Options
The main path is about 0.3 miles total, paved, and essentially flat (around 6 feet of elevation gain). Figure roughly 5–10 minutes each way. If you want a little more walking, there’s a roughly 1.1-mile loop starting from the museum that links forest paths with the paved spur to the rock—nice as a leg-stretcher, but the real payoff is the vista from Beetle Rock itself.
What You’ll See
Expect big open vistas toward the rolling Sierra foothills from a sun-warmed granite dome. The surrounding high country is dominated by ancient igneous rocks that built the Sierra Nevada, and Beetle Rock is one of those polished granite exposures—classic Sequoia scenery without the stair-climb.

Start at the Giant Forest Museum area on Generals Highway. The signed paved path begins by the parking lots; you can often see the rock through the trees from the trailhead. The surface is paved asphalt with a gentle grade and generally adequate width. Many wheelchair and stroller users find it doable, though the rock has unrailed edges and drop-offs—some visitors may want assistance. Designated accessible parking spaces are in the nearby lot.

Year-round access is typical around the museum area, but winter storms can close roads or require tire chains. Summer is the busiest—go early or late for cooler temps, softer light, and fewer people. Sunset is particularly lovely here, and far less hectic than the park’s marquee overlooks.
