Wolverton is a picnic area, meadow walk and winter snowplay site at the end of Wolverton Road, about two miles north of the General Sherman Tree. Tables, barbecue grills, water spigots, flush toilets and parking are here. Wolverton is also a trailhead for longer hikes, including the Lakes Trail toward Heather, Emerald and Pear lakes.

Wolverton is one of the park's designated snowplay areas, with hills used for sledding and general snow play when snow conditions allow. Skip sledding on icy snow, around exposed hazards or in poor visibility. Tire chains may be required on park roads in winter, and after a storm Wolverton Road can take longer to open while the main roads are cleared.
