Wuksachi Lodge

Wuksachi is a stone-and-cedar lodge village with 102 public rooms in three lodging buildings, a central registration and restaurant, and a gift shop. It sits one mile north of Lodgepole along Generals Highway. Choose it to sleep inside the park and stay close to its trails and giant sequoia groves; the lodge operates year-round.

Guest rooms are apart from the central reception and restaurant, so getting between a room and the car can involve a walk; visitors report uphill paths, stairs and no elevators. The property lists accessible rooms, but if step-free access or luggage help matters, confirm the exact building and route when booking. Rooms include a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker; Wi-Fi is limited to designated areas.

The Peaks is a full-service restaurant and lounge, open to visitors who are not staying overnight. Its offerings include a breakfast buffet, soups, sandwiches, salads and Sierra-style dinners. The seasonal Pizza Deck adds 12-inch pizzas, salads and grab-and-go food; its posted menu has included mushroom-and-artichoke or pesto-chicken pizzas. Arrange dinner ahead, especially in summer.

Wuksachi was developed to move lodging and concession operations out of Giant Forest, where peak-season facilities included 248 public rooms and more than 300 concession employees lived and worked. Infrastructure work began in 1985, and the first lodging and dining opened in June 1999.

The village commemorates the Wuksachi band of Western Mono (Monache) people, who used the area seasonally before Euro-American settlement.

The dining room looks out toward surrounding forests and peaks. Visitors also report seeing stars outside the lodge at night; step out on a clear evening if the sky is open.
