Crazy Creek Falls

Crazy Creek Falls is a bedrock cascade beside US 212 on the Wyoming stretch of the Beartooth Highway. Water slides over a long, sloping rock channel in several ledges instead of dropping in one vertical plunge. It’s an easy break from the drive: the unsigned pullout is on the north side of the road, nearly opposite the Crazy Creek Campground entrance, and easy to miss.

A short path through the trees reaches the lower cascade, then you can head back to the car. The trail continues uphill toward the Crazy Lakes, but that longer hike is optional. Rocks near the water can be slick and the current runs fast, so stay on the established approach rather than stepping onto wet ledges.

Spring runoff, often strongest around early June, can make the creek loud and forceful, with cold spray around the falls. By late summer the flow may dwindle to a trickle, leaving more of the bedrock exposed. The stepped channel is easiest to read from the trail beside the water; continuing above gives a different look down the cascade, but involves more walking and slick rock.

Crazy Creek Campground is opposite the falls and lists vault toilets. Those are campground facilities, not a restroom at the falls pullout; no falls-side facilities were confirmed.
