Chisos Basin Campground

Chisos Basin Campground is a developed National Park Service campground at 5,400 feet, set in open woodland beneath the Chisos peaks. Campers look out toward Casa Grande and Emory Peak, with the Window's famous sunset view nearby. It's a strong base if you want to camp close to the high-country hikes. The tradeoff is space: sites are small, rocky and often uneven.

The campground is about 10 miles from Panther Junction at the end of a steep, winding road with sharp hairpin turns. Trailers longer than 20 feet and RVs longer than 24 feet aren't recommended, and even smaller vehicles may find some sites hard to level. Reservations are required year-round, so this isn't a first-come campground.

Each site has a picnic table, charcoal grill and bear-proof food container; some tables have shade shelters. The campground has potable water, year-round flush toilets, seasonal portable toilets, a store and ice. There are no showers or electric hookups. Wood and ground fires aren't allowed; use charcoal only in a raised grill. The grounds are hilly, but paved roads connect the parking areas and restrooms. One accessible campsite and an accessible public restroom are listed.
