Trail guide
Biscayne Trail is a 2.7-mile, one-way stretch of Miami-Dade County Route 5 from Black Point Park & Marina north to Old Cutler Road, where it meets the Old Cutler Trail. It follows SW 87th Avenue and takes about 70 minutes on foot; walking back makes it 5.4 miles and about two and a quarter hours. Treat it as a point-to-point outing and plan a ride back or retrace your steps.
This is an easy, nearly flat suburban outing on a mix of paved shared-use path, sidewalk, bike lane and short shared-road stretches. The northern part passes residential streets, Centennial Middle School and Dr. Wingham Elementary School; the corridor gets more tree-lined toward Black Point. Expect neighborhood traffic at crossings. I’d choose it for a long paved walk, skate or bike ride, not for a deep nature walk.
The south end is a Miami-Dade County park and marina, with parking, restrooms and the Black Point Ocean Grill, an open-air seafood restaurant whose menu includes smoked fish dip and conch dishes. These are endpoint amenities, not services along the corridor. For a shorter waterfront walk, the separate Black Point jetty is part of Biscayne’s birding trail; it is not included in Route 5 or this trail’s mileage.
The path is a county Route 5 corridor, mostly outside Biscayne National Park, and ends at Black Point’s park and marina access. Start there at 24775 SW 87th Avenue and follow Route 5 north to Old Cutler Road. Miami-Dade County excludes pets from park property, so you can’t complete this route with a pet; service animals are excepted. The path also includes marked and uncontrolled road crossings and stretches alongside traffic, so stay alert at intersections.
