Trail guide
Black Point Jetty Trail is an easy 1.7-mile out-and-back from Black Point Park & Marina. A paved path turns to dirt and then a sandy, rock-edged jetty, with Biscayne Bay opening around it. Allow about an hour if you plan to stop for birds. The 1.5-mile figure sometimes attached to Black Point describes the jetty’s reach into the bay; the mapped walk is about 0.8 mile out.
At the far end, the route reaches a bird sanctuary among the rocks. Stay on the trail and scan the rocks for shorebirds, especially in winter. Mangrove cuckoos may be heard here, and prairie warblers are commonly heard around Black Point.
The walk starts paved, changes to dirt, and finishes on sand. Benches, picnic tables and grills give you places to pause. From the outer stretch, a photo looking back along the path can show the rocks, mangroves and water together.
Use Black Point Park & Marina at 24775 SW 87th Ave. The park has parking, restrooms, a large picnic pavilion with grills and a dockside restaurant, all near the start. The out-and-back returns on the same corridor.
