A classic Blue Mountains warm‑up, Charles Darwin Walk shadows Jamison Creek from Wilson Park in Wentworth Falls to the national park boundary near Weeping Rock. Expect a lush, riparian corridor with tall eucalypts, banksia, rock pools, and frequent little cascades. It’s family‑friendly, birdy, and never feels rushed.

Distance and Difficulty

It’s about 5.6 km return (roughly 3.5 miles) as an out‑and‑back from Wilson Park. Plan on around 2 hours return at an easy pace. The track is mostly flat with short stair sections, small bridges, and boardwalks. Official grading places it around Grade 3 (moderate) but it walks “easy” for most people. Elevation change is minimal.

Trail Experience

This is a creekside amble: the soundtrack is running water and honeyeaters chattering above. Boardwalks protect sensitive hanging swamps; between those and the bridges, footing is generally straightforward. After rain, the place feels rainforest‑fresh—just expect muddy patches and slippery timber. Near the boundary, it’s a short continuation to Weeping Rock and the top of Wentworth Falls where the landscape opens to the Jamison Valley and the bigger track network.

Keep an eye out for rock pools and small cascades that make refreshing summer stops. Birdlife is a highlight—honeyeaters, shrub wrens, and black cockatoos often work the banksia. You’re walking through classic Blue Mountains sandstone country, with pockets of Temperate Highland Peat Swamp on Sandstone skirting the creek.

Best Times to Hike

Year‑round is fine. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temps and active birdlife. In summer, go early for cooler shade and gentler light along the creek; afternoon storms can move through quickly. Weekends see plenty of families; for quieter vibes, try early mornings or weekdays.

Access, Pets, and Extensions

Start at Wilson Park in Wentworth Falls—handy to public transport—and follow the clear signage. Dogs on leash are allowed on the council‑managed section but must turn around at the Blue Mountains National Park boundary. Without a dog, continue to Weeping Rock or link to cliff‑top viewpoints like those around the Wentworth Falls picnic area.

Need to Know

Parts of the lower section have seen closures and restoration since flood damage; as of recent updates, the upper two‑thirds from Wilson Park to Fletcher Street is open, with detours possible beyond. Surfaces can be slick after rain. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and sun protection, and consider binoculars for birding.
