Sublime Point Track

Overview

This is the short, sweet access walk to Sublime Point Lookout above the Jamison Valley. Expect maximum views for minimal effort. From the end of Sublime Point Road in Leura, a brief bush path leads to a fenced, cliff‑edge platform with sweeping panoramas toward Katoomba, the Three Sisters, and Mount Solitary. It’s a worthy detour if you want world‑class scenery without committing to a long hike.

Trail Snapshot

Plan on roughly 0.6 miles (1 km) round trip, about 20–30 minutes return at an easy pace. The track is a simple out‑and‑back with only minor ups and downs, but there are uneven sections and some steps near the end. Just before the lookout, you’ll cross a small bridge over a ravine that adds a touch of drama to an otherwise straightforward approach.

Scenery & What You’ll See

The lookout sits on the sandstone escarpment with wide‑angle views across the Jamison Valley. On clear days you’ll pick out the Three Sisters and the long silhouette of Mount Solitary. The approach passes through casuarina forest—listen for gang‑gang cockatoos, especially in summer.

Best Time to Hike

Year‑round is good here. Clear winter–spring days often bring the longest views, while calm sunrises can light the valley beautifully (and sometimes mist pools below, with Mount Solitary rising through it). It’s typically quieter than the crush at Echo Point, especially outside holiday weekends and mid‑day tour bus hours.

Tips & Logistics

• Parking, toilets, and picnic tables are at the end of Sublime Point Road. Bring water, sun protection, and a layer—conditions change quickly on the exposed escarpment.
• The path is short but not wheelchair or pram friendly due to steps and uneven ground. The lookout is fenced, but supervise kids closely near sheer drop‑offs.
• The cliffs here attract experienced climbers; if you’re not geared up and trained, enjoy from the rails.

What It’s Not (and a Name Gotcha)

This isn’t a long bushwalk—think “grand lookout via a quick stroll.” If you want a lengthy hike, pair this stop with other nearby tracks the same day. Also, don’t confuse this Leura track with the similarly named, ladder‑filled Sublime Point walking track on the Illawarra Escarpment near Austinmer—totally different place and experience.
