Overview
Tucked on the edge of Leura, Elysian Rock Lookout is a quiet crowd-avoider with big payoff views over the Jamison Valley. Two sandstone platforms sit right on the cliff line, joined by the charming Buttenshaw Bridge — the original dates to 1936, with a modern replacement retaining the character.
What You'll See
Expect sweeping, unobstructed valley vistas and distant escarpments — classic Blue Mountains scenery from a more intimate perch. After rain, you may spot a waterfall tumbling below. Benches on the fenced platforms make it easy to linger, and the little bridge adds a bit of drama to your photos.
Getting There
A short, clearly signposted path from Olympian Parade leads to the lookout (think a few minutes’ walk with some steps). Street parking along Olympian Parade is the go. The lookout sits right on the Prince Henry Cliff Walk, near Gordon Falls Reserve and other Leura viewpoints.
Make It a Mini-Circuit
If you’ve got time, stitch this into a mellow section of the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and pop over to nearby lookouts like Olympian Rock, Tarpeian Rock, or Gordon Falls. It’s an easy way to collect multiple angles on the valley without committing to a long hike.
Best Time to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon brings softer light, moody layers across the valley, and the tranquil vibe this spot is known for. It’s open-air with no gates, but daylight hours are safest for the cliffside paths. Weekdays are typically even quieter than weekends.

The platforms are compact and right on the edge — gorgeous, but exposed. It can be very windy, and closures sometimes follow storms and landslips along the cliff walk. There are no facilities at the lookout, so come prepared.
Wildlife
Keep an ear out for birdlife — cockatoos and rosellas are common in the area — and watch the surrounding bush for the occasional wallaby or, if you’re lucky, a lyrebird. Bring binoculars if that’s your thing, and always view wildlife from a distance.
