Golf Links Lookout

Overview

Perched on the escarpment just south of Leura, Golf Links Lookout delivers that classic Blue Mountains drama—sheer sandstone cliffs dropping into the Jamison Valley—without requiring a long hike. The cliff edge is fenced and signposted, and the vibe tends to be peaceful compared to the park’s headline lookouts.

Getting There

It’s an easy outing from town: a short, well-marked Grade 3 track leads from the end of Gladstone Road to the viewpoint, roughly 800 m return. Expect a few flights of steps and some uneven, potentially muddy patches after rain. The lookout sits near Leura Golf Course and links neatly with nearby reserves and tracks.

What You’ll See

Think sweeping valley vistas, blue-hazed ridges, and sculpted sandstone. On clear days, the light rakes across the cliffs and forested slopes, giving photographers plenty to play with. You can also pick up trails that connect toward Gordon Falls, and many walkers combine this stop with other nearby lookouts and short cascades.

Wildlife

This edge-of-escapement bushland is good for birdlife. Early and late in the day you’re likely to hear and spot local species—cockatoos are regulars—so bring binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching.

Best Time to Visit

Late afternoon til sunset is prime for warm, side-lit views and softer shadows. Early mornings are quieter and can be wonderfully calm. Weekends draw more people—visit on a weekday or outside peak hours if you want the place to yourself.

Know Before You Go

Facilities are minimal: no toilets, food, or water on-site. The fencing is there for safety and can limit certain photo angles; step a little along the track for different perspectives. Good footwear makes the short walk more comfortable, especially after wet weather.

Make It a Mini-Adventure

If you’ve got extra time, continue exploring the nearby tracks toward Gordon Falls or work this into a longer loop that takes in small waterfalls and the Pool of Siloam—this area rewards lingering.
