Gordon Falls lookout

Gordon Falls lookout is a cliff-top viewpoint near Leura, looking into the forested Jamison Valley and across sandstone cliffs toward Mount Solitary and Kings Tableland. Keep it on your list for the broad valley view; Gordon Falls can look partial or distant from here, so don't expect a close waterfall encounter. The approach is short but steep, with steps down and a climb back up. It's a good quick stop if you can manage stairs, but it isn't step-free.

The lookout faces a deep green valley lined by long sandstone escarpments, with Mount Solitary and Kings Tableland among the landmarks in the wider view. The waterfall is part of the scene, but its flow changes with recent rain and the falls may be the smaller part of the experience. The cliffs and valley are the more dependable reason to pause.

Gordon Falls picnic area is a separate nearby stop with a playground. It also marks the end of day one and the start of day two for Grand Cliff Top Walk, so this lookout makes a natural short pause if you're doing the longer walk.

Peregrine falcons can circle on the valley thermals, while lyrebirds forage in the forest litter around the walking tracks. Take a little time to look both above the cliffs and below the canopy; neither bird is guaranteed, but both add something to the stop.

For a phone photo, include a sandstone spur in the foreground with the long escarpment and forested valley behind it. Those layers show the depth of the view better than filling the frame with cliff alone.
