More about Hatteras Ferry Terminal

Hatteras Ferry Terminal is the vehicle-ferry landing at the end of NC-12 in Hatteras Village, linking Hatteras Island to northern Ocracoke across Hatteras Inlet. The crossing takes about an hour, so this is a real change of island, not a quick hop. Keep it in your plans if Ocracoke is on your route; the terminal itself is a working queue and boarding area.

Make the wait part of the stopCars queue in vehicle stacking lanes beside the dock.

Cars queue in vehicle stacking lanes beside the dock. If you have a wait, the National Park Service says you can leave the car to explore nearby beaches and facilities, but be back in it 10 minutes before the next departure. A comfort station with restrooms sits south of the lanes, and vending is available. The agency lists wheelchair access, but doesn't detail the whole route through queuing and boarding; check the current setup if you need specific access arrangements.

What to expectFollow NC-12 through Hatteras Village to the terminal at the far end of the road.

Follow NC-12 through Hatteras Village to the terminal at the far end of the road. Once aboard, look out over Hatteras Inlet; the crossing is the payoff. Waits vary, so leave slack if you're making another connection. This is a useful gateway if Ocracoke is on your plans, and an easy skip if you're staying on Hatteras.
