Center Lake Campground

Overview

Tucked in the pines above tranquil Center Lake, this 71-site campground is the park’s low-key, lakeside option. Expect a peaceful, wooded vibe, quick access to the water, and an easy hop to the scenic Needles Highway. It’s best for tent campers and smaller RVs; 17 sites are tent-only and there are no hookups.

Campsites & Facilities

You’ll find vault toilets and potable-water spigots around camp, plus showers down at the swim beach (open limited hours). There are no flush toilets and no on-site store or restaurant, so arrive stocked. Sites are shaded and come with the usual setup (parking pad, picnic table, fire ring). Cell service is essentially nonexistent, but there’s a landline on site and hosts/rangers circulate.

On the Water

Center Lake is a no-wake zone—perfect for paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks. The swim beach is an easy stroll from camp, and anglers praise the fishing. The calm setting keeps the whole area quieter than the park’s busier hubs.

Reservations: How It Works

This campground runs on same-day reservations only. Booking opens at 6 AM the day you want to camp, and you need to occupy the site that day (or you’ll forfeit it). With spotty-to-no cell service, plan to use the onsite landline if you’re already in the area. Have a few site numbers in mind—spots for larger rigs are limited and go quickly.

Wildlife

General park wildlife wanders through—expect the usual deer and birds around camp. Keep food secured and give any animals plenty of space.

Best Time to Visit

Weekdays are calmer than weekends and holiday periods. To snag a site, call right at 6 AM. Early and late light on the lake is lovely for photos and paddling, and mornings are typically the quietest at the beach.
