Daintree National Park, QLD
Quick river lookouts over granite boulders and fast water.
Overview
The Mossman River tumbles over smooth granite boulders below the rainforest. The track stays close to the water, and the small constructed lookouts give you a few places to stop and take it in.

Trail guide
Lower Mossman River Track is a 640 m out-and-back from the Mossman Gorge day-use shuttle stop. It follows the river bank to several small lookouts, then returns along the same path. Queensland Parks allows about 40 minutes. It’s a good choice if you want time beside the river without committing to the longer rainforest circuit.
Butterflies may be visible in the forest, and Queensland Parks suggests looking for jungle perch and saw-shelled turtles in the river. The gorge is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, recognized for its biological diversity and evolutionary history.
It’s a Grade 2 walk and mostly easy, but some steps can be slippery; use the handrails. Park at Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre and take the shuttle to the day-use area, where the track starts. Toilets and Mayi Café are at the centre, separate from the riverside route.
At the junction, Baral Marrjanga continues as a separate boardwalk walk. It’s an easy way to add more walking, but it isn’t part of this track’s 640 m return distance.
