Dubuji Boardwalk

Overview

A short, shady wander through ancient lowland rainforest, the Dubuji Boardwalk is a flat, well‑formed loop that totals 1.2 km (0.75 mi) end‑to‑end. Expect broad, raised decking and clear signage as you wind past spring‑fed creeks and out toward the edge of coastal mangroves. It’s an easy, family‑friendly circuit you can walk in about 45 minutes without rushing.

What you’ll see

This is classic Daintree: fan palms, buttressed giants, lianas, and mangrove tangles. Interpretive panels help make sense of what you’re looking at. Wildlife is a real draw—quiet walkers often spot birds like kingfishers, orangish‑legged scrubfowl, and fruit‑doves; keep your eyes open for the region’s famed cassowaries.

Access and facilities

Start from the Dubuji day‑use area off Cape Tribulation Road, where there’s a signed car park and picnic tables. The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible with assistance and suitable for prams. The circuit also links to Myall Beach if you want to add sand and sea to the rainforest mix.

As of November 23, 2025, park works are scheduled through November 30, 2025: the main access is closed, but you can still reach the boardwalk via a signed link from the Myall Beach track and walk it as a return. Toilets at Dubuji are closed during these works; use the alternative amenity block just to the north. Check park alerts before you go.

Best time to hike

Open 24 hours, but the smart move is early morning or late afternoon for cooler temps, softer light, and better wildlife activity. If you add the beach section, low tide makes for easier walking. In winter, Myall Beach can offer occasional views of passing humpback whales.

Tips

• Move slowly and keep voices low—your wildlife sightings will multiply.
• Bring insect repellent and drinking water; there’s deep shade but it’s still tropical.
• The raised boardwalk makes this a good choice even after heavy rain, when ground off the decking can be boggy.
