Pros & cons
PROS
- Lookout to Manjal Dimbi (Mount Demi) just past Rex Creek Bridge
- Accessible boardwalk start lets mixed‑ability groups share part of the experience
CONS
- Shuttle required from the Centre; no safe pedestrian access to the gorge
- Inviting river pools can be dangerous, especially after rain

River is unsupervised and can rise rapidly after rain; avoid entering after rainfall. Track may close during the wet season or after heavy rain; use the shuttle as there’s no safe pedestrian access from the Centre.
Overview
This is a lush, easy–moderate rainforest loop through Daintree National Park’s Mossman Gorge, within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and on Eastern Kuku Yalanji Country. Expect towering strangler figs, dripping epiphytes, bright butterflies, and photo‑worthy views of the crystal‑clear Mossman River and its rock pools.
Route and What You’ll See
From the Mossman Gorge Centre shuttle stop, follow the Baral Marrjanga boardwalk to the short Rex Creek Bridge Track. Cross the bridge—there’s a small lookout to Manjal Dimbi (Mount Demi) about 80 m beyond—then begin the Rainforest Circuit proper. The signed loop is about 3.4 km (total). Surfaces are a mix of formed trail and boardwalk with gentle ups/downs and some steps. Expect river viewpoints, enormous figs, interpretive signage, and a quietly immersive rainforest feel; you’ll return to the shuttle via the same boardwalk link.
Difficulty and Access
Overall this track suits most walkers with basic fitness. The circuit itself isn’t wheelchair accessible, but the Baral Marrjanga boardwalk, shuttle, toilets, and picnic area are. Pets aren’t permitted. Wear sturdy footwear and bring water and insect repellent.
Logistics
Park at the Mossman Gorge Centre; a frequent daytime shuttle takes you to and from the walking area, and tickets are required. There is no safe pedestrian access from the Centre to the gorge—use the shuttle. If it’s busy, consider walking the loop counter‑flow to thin the crowds near the bridge and viewpoints.
Best Times to Hike
It’s walkable year‑round. May–November is cooler and drier and the best window for comfort. December–April is hot, humid, and wet; heavy rain can bring flooding and temporary closures. Start early for cooler temps, softer light under the canopy, and fewer people.
Safety Notes
The Mossman River is unsupervised and conditions change quickly—assess carefully and avoid entering after rain. Tracks may close in the wet season or after heavy rainfall; check park alerts on the day you go.
Cultural Option
For deeper context, consider a guided Dreamtime/Ngadiku walk with local Kuku Yalanji guides, which adds cultural knowledge about the rainforest, bush foods, and traditional practices.
