Parking

Use Gutter Tor Car Park beside the Scout Hut, west of Sheepstor, at the end of the narrow lane. The lot is small and unsurfaced.

Safety

Open moorland, uneven granite and a small ford require sure footing and a map in poor visibility. Keep dogs close; use a lead from 1 March to 31 July, near livestock, and when adders may be basking.

Gutter Tor Walk is a 4-mile loop from Gutter Tor Car Park across open moorland south of Sheepstor. It links Gutter Tor, Gutter Mire’s old workings, Ditsworthy Warren House, Drizzlecombe’s Bronze Age stone rows and cairns, and Higher Hartor Tor, returning past Eylesbarrow’s tin-mine remains. Allow about 2½ hours, longer if you stop at the archaeology.

A grassy climb reaches Gutter Tor’s granite stacks and natural rock basin. The route crosses moorland marked by tin gullies and medieval warrening. Ditsworthy Warren House, a derelict listed building, served as the farmhouse in War Horse. A small ford leads toward Drizzlecombe’s stone rows, cairns and hut circles. Higher Hartor is the high point, with a clear-day view over the Plym Valley; return northwest past Eylesbarrow’s mine remains. At Gutter Tor, frame the granite stacks with Gutter Mire behind them.
