Trail guide
Little Mis Tor and Great Mis Tor Walk is a roughly 3-mile (4.8-km) out-and-back from a car park off the B3357, east of Merrivale. It climbs across open moorland, reaching Little Mis Tor first and Great Mis Tor second; you return by the same route. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for about 180 m of climbing. Choose it for a compact pair of granite tors and a proper hilltop finish, rather than the longer circuits that take in the Walkham valley or Merrivale’s stone rows.
From the car park, cross the B3357 north to pick up the stone track. It gains height steadily across open hillside. Little Mis Tor comes first: a blocky granite outcrop with a broad moorland setting. The main surface is stone, and the walk is uphill for most of the way out. The final approach around the tors is rougher, so leave time for your feet and the rocks rather than treating this as a brisk roadside stroll.
Continue north toward Great Mis Tor, the higher and more rugged of the pair, then take the short rocky approach to its summit. The view opens across Dartmoor: Roos Tor and Staple Tors lie to the west, with Beardown Tor to the east. That makes the second top the natural place to pause before turning around. Keep your line simple and retrace your outbound path; nearby routes can add other tors, ancient stone rows, or a river valley, but they make a longer day and are different walks. The high ground is exposed, and gusts can be strong around the rocky top.
Use the B3357 car park shown for this route, about 0.8 mile east of Merrivale; it is separate from Merrivale Car Park farther west. No toilets, water, or food stop were confirmed at this start, so bring what you need. Dogs are allowed, but keep them on a lead around Dartmoor’s grazing cattle, sheep, and ponies. Merrivale Range is close by: check the firing notice and obey the marked boundary. A red flag by day or red lamps at night mean no entry to the range.
