About Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre

Why stop

  • A remarkable range of marked trails starts from one forest base
  • The round timber building and surrounding woods make a memorable first stop

Heads up

  • The site is unstaffed with no café, shop, information desk, or first aid
  • Popular riding days can make the centre and trails feel busy
Coed y Brenin is a forest gateway built around one of Britain’s landmark mountain-bike venues. The distinctive round timber-clad building sits among conifers just off the A470, eight miles north of Dolgellau, and the car park is the starting point for a dense network of marked routes.

Before you go

Best time to visit

For a calmer start and a better chance of finding space close to the trail signs, aim for an early weekday visit. Weekends and fair-weather days are the busiest. Low, soft light works well on the timber building and forest paths; misty weather gives the woods atmosphere but can make roots and trail surfaces slick.

More about Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre

Know before you goThis is now primarily a trail gateway, not a staffed information bureau.

This is now primarily a trail gateway, not a staffed information bureau. The visitor-centre building is unstaffed; the café, shop, and information desk no longer operate, and there is no on-site first-aid provision. Toilets remain available, but come prepared with your own food, water, and route plan. Bike hire and bike-shop services at the site are operated separately.

Parking, marked routes, and the toilets make this a practical base even if you are only walking. Read the trail information at the start and choose a route that matches your fitness, bike, or mobility equipment. Conditions can be wet under the trees, so footwear with grip and a light waterproof are sensible.

Why stopYou can set out on mountain-bike trails ranging from family-friendly rides to technical routes…

You can set out on mountain-bike trails ranging from family-friendly rides to technical routes for experienced riders, or choose waymarked walking and running trails. Some routes are suitable for wheelchair users and off-road mobility scooters. The nearby Y Ffowndri skills area lets riders practise the kinds of features used on the graded trails, while play areas near the car park give families an easier reason to stop.
