Guide
St. Mary Campground is a 148-site developed campground on a gently sloping hillside above St. Mary Lake, just west of Glacier’s east boundary. It’s the largest campground on the park’s east side. An old paved road winds through the sites, and the broad views across the water to sharp peaks are the main payoff. The open hillside means sparse shade and varying privacy; choose it for the landscape and a developed base rather than a secluded patch of woods.
The seasonal campground amphitheater hosts ranger programs. Nearby St. Mary Visitor Center adds interpretive programs, book sales, shuttle service and Red Bus tours; those services are at the visitor center, not the campsites. Aspens across the open hillside rustle in spring and summer, then turn yellow late in the season.
