Grampians National Park, VIC
Gentle 3 km town path ending beneath Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt
Overview
The reward is arriving at the base of the range. From the rest area at the carpark end you get the defining view of Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt rising together. That view belongs to the endpoint, so treat the walk out as the approach rather than a continuous lookout.

Trail guide
This is a point-to-point walking connector, not a loop and not a climb. It runs 3.07 km (1.91 mi) one way from the edge of Dunkeld out to the Mount Sturgeon Walk Carpark, so plan your return before you set off.
The route starts in town near Sterling Street and links up a mix of designated foot and cycle paths, a few short track sections, and designated crossing segments before finishing at the Mount Sturgeon Walk Carpark off Victoria Valley Road, which is an unpaved surface carpark. It is a straightforward line of travel rather than a network of junctions, so wayfinding is mostly a matter of staying on the made path and taking care where the path meets or crosses roads.
Elevation along the route sits between about 232 m and 264 m, with the rises and dips spread out over the full length. In practice that means easy, gently rolling walking with no sustained ascent and no verified permanent technical hazards. Do not expect a summit effort here, because there is not one.
Because both ends are fixed points, you need a plan:
The carpark at the far end is also the trailhead for the separate Mount Sturgeon (Wurgarri) Walk, which is a different proposition: roughly 7 km return and strenuous, climbing through open woodland, Grampians Gum, rocky outcrops and stunted vegetation to broad views over the ranges, the volcanic plains and Dunkeld. Treat that as an optional continuation only if you have the legs and the time, and count its distance on top of this connector.
