Stevensons Falls

Stevensons Falls is a waterfall on the Gellibrand River in the Otways, reached by an easy walk through redwoods. It makes a good forest-and-water stop if you want to get out of the car for more than a quick roadside look.

From the picnic-area car park, the managing agency describes the main falls walk as 1 km return, on a formed, signed track with gentle hills and no steps to the main viewing platform. It crosses the Gellibrand River, then follows it to the falls. Use the day-visitor car park for this route; the campground is a separate area with a different approach.

The path passes a stand of Californian redwoods left from a trial plantation established in the 1980s. The trees make the approach feel like a second stop built into the walk. If you'd rather focus on the forest and river, the Blue Spruce Walk and Redwoods Boardwalk are additional short options; the full boardwalk has steps.

The main platform brings you to the base of the waterfall. Steps continue to an elevated platform for a higher view. The lower platform and main day-area paths are described as accessible by the managing agency, while the upper platform and full Redwoods Boardwalk have steps. For photos, compare the low view across the pool with the higher angle from the upper platform.

The day-use area has parking, accessible toilets and picnic tables. There is no food outlet listed, so bring a picnic if you want to stay a while. Dogs are allowed and the site is listed as suitable for 2WD vehicles. Nearby, the separate campground has 44 tent sites and wood-fired barbecues; caravans and camper trailers are not suited to it.
