Triplet Falls

Triplet Falls is a 2 km loop through Otway rainforest to raised platforms above the upper and lower cascades. Allow about an hour. It’s a rewarding stop if you’re comfortable with stairs: the route drops steeply toward the falls, then returns by an easier stretch. The steps can be slippery when wet, so this isn’t a good walk for a pram or anyone unsteady on stairs. Dogs aren’t allowed.

The lower platforms give you different angles, but trees screen parts of the falls. Continue to the upper platform for the clearest reported view. The falls are fuller after rain; in drier spells, fewer of the three channels may be flowing. The best photograph comes from the upper platform, reached on foot rather than from the car park.

The loop passes through Mountain Ash and Myrtle Beech rainforest. Some of the Mountain Ash are more than 200 years old, grown from seeds about the size of grains of sand. Look down too: mosses and fungi on the forest floor help keep this rainforest going.

Triplet Falls is also a former timber-mill site. Log carts and other mill relics still line the walking track, giving the short circuit a second story alongside the cascades.

The Little Aire Falls branch leaves the Triplet Falls track along an old logging winch line. It’s a 2.5 km, roughly 2.5-hour return walk to an eight-metre viewing platform, so count it as a substantial extension rather than a quick extra look.

The walk starts at its access on Phillips Track. Parking, toilets and picnic tables are reported at the trailhead; toilet type and drinking water weren’t confirmed. No food outlet was verified at the walk, so plan a meal stop elsewhere.
