The campground operates only during the warmer months, and its opening dates vary by year, so check the current season before building a trip around it. It sits off Route 431, about 2 km from Trout River, and gives you a useful launch point for the Tablelands and Green Gardens. If you need powered hookups, note that the regular campsites are unserviced; choose one of the roofed units if you want shelter without bringing a tent.

“At Trout River Campground, the view doesn't end when the Tablelands go dark. The wooded sites sit beside Trout River Pond, and on a clear night the sky can be full of stars.”

More about Trout River Campground

A wooded base on the south sideTrout River Campground is a seasonal campground on the edge of glacier-carved Trout River Pond…

Trout River Campground is a seasonal campground on the edge of glacier-carved Trout River Pond at Gros Morne’s southern end. The regular sites sit among trees; oTENTiks and tiny cabins give you a roof if you don’t bring a tent. From camp, the pond opens toward the Tablelands, with a wooded shoreline below the rusty slopes. If you’re exploring this side of the park, it’s a practical base: Trout River is about 2 km away, and the Tablelands and Green Gardens are nearby.

Spend time at the pondA short path reaches a pebble beach on Trout River Pond.

A short path reaches a pebble beach on Trout River Pond. Across the water, the Tablelands’ broad, exposed slopes rise above a strip of dark forest. When the water is still, their colors reflect in the pond; the shore is also a good place to take a break between hikes. The nearby day-use area has boating and kayaking access, a boat launch, playground, hiking trail and freshwater swimming. Those facilities belong to the day-use area, not the campground itself. This is a useful place to settle in for a few nights if you want time on the park’s south side rather than a string of roadside stops.

What’s on siteAll sites have fire pits.

All sites have fire pits. The regular campsites are unserviced, and the other accommodations are oTENTiks and tiny cabins. Shared facilities include a kitchen shelter, flush toilets, showers and a kiosk. Campers also have communal water taps and Wi-Fi. There’s a practical range of ways to stay here, from bringing your own camping setup to booking a small cabin.
