“You're approaching Aroona Valley, where a spring, station ruins and wide views make a good short heritage stop. The water had long served Adnyamathanha people, but settlers denied them access to it.”

Aroona Campground is a small, unpowered bush campground on the edge of Aroona Creek at the park's northern end, between the ABC and Heysen ranges. It has 13 allocated sites, with the Heysen Trail running close by. If you're camping in Aroona Valley and want to head out on foot without moving the car, this is a useful base. Several loop walks start here, including the Yuluna hike.

The Red Hill Lookout Hike begins at the campground car park, then follows the Heysen Trail before climbing a steep fire track. It's 8.4 km return and takes about four hours. From Red Hill, you get views over Aroona Valley and south towards the peaks of Wilpena Pound. Make it a half-day outing, not a quick leg-stretch.

The 13 sites are unpowered, and the campground is listed as suitable for tents, camper trailers and caravans. Access calls for a high-clearance 2WD or 4WD. A long-drop toilet and water tank are at the toilet block, but the tank's water quality and supply aren't guaranteed, so bring drinking water. Campfires are allowed when seasonal fire restrictions permit.
