Pocahontas Campground

Overview

Set near the park’s east boundary on Miette Road, Pocahontas Campground (also referred to as Miette Campground) is the mellow, woodsy alternative to Jasper’s mega-campgrounds. It’s the spot you pick for birdsong, tree cover, and an easy base for soaking at Miette Hot Springs.

Setting & vibe

Expect a forested, low-key feel with good separation between sites. It’s quieter than Whistlers or Wapiti, and the scenery is classic foothills forest with mountain backdrops—nothing flashy, just peaceful.

Campsites & facilities

There are about 140 frontcountry sites, and they’re RV-suitable, though a few back-ins can be tight for trailers. Facilities are simple but comfortable: flush toilets, running water, a dishwashing sink, and drinkable water taps. Fire pits are at each site, and firewood is provided on-site. There are no showers.

Nearby & things to do

You’re a quick drive from Miette Hot Springs—perfect for a post-hike soak. Short walks from the campground lead to a pretty waterfall and the remains of the old mining village; history buffs and casual wanderers both win here.

Wildlife

Mornings bring lively birdsong, and it’s not unusual to spot wildlife along Miette Road—black bears have been seen on the drive to the hot springs. Keep food secured and stay bear-smart.

Best time to visit

Late spring through early fall is prime. Early summer can be buggy, so bring repellent. It’s generally quieter than the main Jasper campgrounds, but in peak summer, arriving earlier in the day helps with site selection.
