Why It Matters for Your Plan

Kalbarri is split into two main areas: the inland river gorges and the coastal cliffs. You’ll need a park pass for the inland gorges, while the coastal cliffs are free. Towing (caravans, trailers, boats) isn’t permitted into the inland national park area—unhitch in town before you go. Roads are sealed and fine for 2WD, but there’s no drinking water in the park, and summer heat is no joke. Start hikes early, carry plenty of water (about a litre per person per hour), wear sun protection, and expect flies—nets help.

• No dogs in the national park (and not in vehicles inside the park).
• No camping anywhere in the park.
• Overnight hikes are restricted in hotter months; check current rules at the desk.

Best Time to Visit the Centre

Drop in right at opening to beat the mid‑morning rush and shape your day before heading inland. It’s typically open 9am–5pm on weekdays and 9am–1pm on weekends, with public holiday variations. Most people are in and out in about 25 minutes, which is perfect for a fast brief before driving to the lookouts.
