Red Bluff Beach

Red Bluff Beach is a white-sand cove beneath Kalbarri’s rust-red coastal cliffs, separate from the Red Bluff headland lookout above. The draw is the contrast of pale sand, layered rock and turquoise Indian Ocean. Walk the shore, fish or snorkel; swim only when conditions are calm, since the water can be rough and windy.

The steep Bluff-to-Beach trail links the shore with the headland. Loose or slippery sections make the climb back the harder part. DBCA lists 1.3 km return from Pederick Lookout or 2 km from the parking area; Trails WA gives 1.4 km return from the lookout. Allow 30–60 minutes, using the figure for your chosen start. Kalbarri’s coastal section is reached from George Grey Drive; park roads are sealed and suitable for 2WD. Standard park entry fees apply.

The cliffs are Tumblagooda Sandstone, built from horizontal sediment layers across an ancient coastal plain with shifting river channels and tidal flats. The formation preserves arthropod trackways and burrows; its exact age is disputed. From the shore, the bands and red rock shelves make the geology part of the view, not just background.

DBCA lists a toilet and lookout/deck at the beach; local visitor information also notes a shade shelter. No food or drinking-water point is listed here, so don’t plan on buying lunch or refilling at the beach. Sunset brings out the contrast between white sand and red cliffs. Pets aren’t permitted in the park.
