Overview
About Governor’s Rock
Why stop
- An open, lake-and-mountain panorama from the rock.
Heads up
- About 4 km return from Ross Castle; plan this as a walk.
Governor’s Rock is a viewpoint on Ross Island, looking across Lough Leane toward the mountains. I’d make it part of a walk day: the lake-and-mountain panorama is the reason to go, and reaching it is part of a Ross Island outing. The circuit starts and ends at Ross Castle and is graded easy, mostly flat, with about 10 m of ascent. Allow about 4 km return; route information also gives a roughly 3 km circuit, so plan for the longer figure.
