Hiking Governor’s Rock Loop

The loopThis roughly 3 km (1.

This roughly 3 km (1.9 mile) loop starts at Ross Castle, passes the old Copper Mines, and climbs gently through woodland to the fenced Governor’s Rock viewpoint above Lough Leane. Allow about an hour at an easy pace, including a short view stop. Keep straight at the first fork toward the mines; the direct branch reaches the Rock but skips the full circuit. After the viewpoint, return to the marked junction and follow the castle signs. Park information also lists a 4 km return walk, so check the local markers if you encounter a longer variant; this mapped circuit follows the shorter loop described by the route directions.
